“To foster sustainable production chains” is one of the main goals of WWF-Brazil´s work. In practice, it means to promote fairer and socio-environmentally friendly market relations that ensure the maintenance of natural resources and help the traditional populations to generate income and improve quality of life. For the last few years we have worked with some specific products in the Amazon, such as rubber, açaí, copaiba, chestnuts and wood.
To structure those production chains, we have invested to improve product quality, delivered training in best practices, promoted coordination between buyers and sellers, searched for new markets and fair conditions for product distribution. This work is crucial to build alternative livelihoods for Amazonian populations and to sustain the balance and health of the Amazonian forests.
