Since 2013, WWF-Brazil has developed a community-based tourism project in the Amazon. It is based in Barra de São Manoel, a small riparian community located on the triple frontier of the states of Amazonas, Pará and Mato Grosso, in the same region where the Tapajós River originates.

Community-based tourism is a line of work that values the cultural activities and lifestyles in their natural context. Thus, visitors can get acquainted to the everyday life of communities and experience their realities together with them – like going to the farm, bathing in the river, producing flour, fishing activities, constructing items such as oars, canoes and hunting traps, in addition to extractivist-related activities.
